With a renewed spotlight on systemic racism and the Black Lives Matter movement, many folks have gravitated towards cinema to further educate themselves on both historical and contemporary Black disenfranchisement. A number of these trending films, however, tend to misrepresent the institutional/social conditions that contribute towards racist societies, while other works with challenging and creative messages about the state of racism in the 21st century often go unrecognized.

This website will help explain these structural issues within mainstream anti-racist films while providing users with a comprehensive breakdown of both effective and ineffective filmic portrayals of systemic racism through both an article and anti-racist film reviews. Every Monday, we will upload a new review to the website and discuss whether or not each film is informative or performative. Interaction in the comment section is welcomed by any and all blog users!
